Why Did You Join the Board of The Parent Child Center of Tulsa?

“While in the legislature 13 years, I came in contact with the PCCT. This was due to a constituent issue initially, and then by attending several legislative luncheons (at the PCCT). While with the county, I went to a Toyland Ball or two. I was impressed with the staff, particularly Desiree Doherty, and the board members. And, the mission of the agency was a very important one… I had my grandchildren in mind in that respect. Before I retired, I had made up my mind that I wanted to volunteer somewhere. I called Desiree and told her I wanted to volunteer with PCCT.”
Fred Perry
“I had a personal experience with DHS relating to a family member having children removed. I felt helpless, even as a seasoned attorney, as I tried to navigate the process and get responses. This experience led me to put myself in the position of a parent with no legal experience trying to navigate through the process of getting a child back. The parent education, and later the SAFE Babies Court Team, struck a personal chord with me as I saw PCCT’s programs provide parents who want to do better the tools to help them achieve those goals. I am a strong believer in reunification where possible and I see PCCT giving hope to families that want to be together and live out healthier relationships.”
Wes Carter
“Ever since I was in high school I felt called to help the “orphan.” Over time, that definition for me broadened to include any child who was abused or neglected as well, and once I became aware of the Parent Child Center and its work, I knew I was meant to be involved. Now having served for almost a decade, I am only more passionate about the agency and its great work to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Parent Child Center strengthens our community by strengthening families and fostering hope for each child’s bright future.”
Kristin Bohanan
“I value the work of PCCT and serving on the PCCT BOD because I want to be an advocate for those who aren’t always able to advocate and/or have a voice for themselves. I’m particularly moved by the statistical evidence surrounding the work of PCCT and its prevention of abuse and neglect in the first place. This motivates me.”
Candice Doctor
“Serving on the Parent Child Center of Tulsa board of directors offers the opportunity to collaborate and advocate with experts in the field of the prevention of child abuse and neglect to end the cycle of abuse. It is crucial that we all work together in all sectors – especially as the number of reported cases continue to increase in Tulsa County. Children are our future, and must be protected by us all. Through protective policies, education, advocacy and training, we can stop this cycle and protect our children, so they may realize a happy childhood, and reach adulthood without childhood trauma, and parents may learn to be effective and loving parents.”
