Oklahoma State Department of Health Recognizes The Parent Child Center of Tulsa at State Capitol Ceremony – 2017 Child Abuse Prevention Awards 

  • The Parent Child Center’s Adult Treatment Program won the 2017 Outstanding Child Abuse Prevention/Strengthening Families Program Award. This statewide award recognizes an exceptional program that focuses on the prevention of child maltreatment and supports vulnerable families.
  • Bright Beginnings was recognized by the OK State Department of Health and the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome for our implementation of the  Period of Purple Crying program. In addition Oklahoma was recognized as a Dark Purple State which means that Oklahoma has achieved the goal of educating at least 80% of families with newborns about the dangers of shaking their babies.
  • Retired Executive Director Desiree Doherty won the Mary Ellen Wilson Award. This statewide award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the prevention of child abuse and strengthening families at a community level.
