2006

Agency Accomplishments

 of Note

Expanded services at the Tulsa County Emergency Shelter to include an additional parent/child interaction group and broader volunteer opportunities in this outreach to families in crisis. Also presented to the 14th Annual Oklahoma Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect on ?Shelter Families: from Crisis to Connection?

In Adult Treatment Services, 15 additional Nurturing Parent education groups and Responsibility Process counseling groups were conducted during 2006; these are 12 and 15 week programs respectively and, along with the Compassion Workshop counseling group, comprised the greatest number of clients seen in treatment in one year at Parent Child Center.

Enhanced the Supervised Visitation and Exchange program by adding a part time case manager to facilitate communications with families and judicial colleagues. We are grateful for an ongoing grant that makes it possible for parents who cannot afford the full cost of supervised visits and would otherwise not be able to see their children.

The HF Groups Coordinator, along with staff from the Community Service Council, Children's First, Healthy Start, and the Childcare Resource Center, collaborated to provide a 15 week structured group for participants from these agencies using Philip DeVol's workbook, "Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin'-By World, an experiential curriculum designed to help families living in poverty learn the skills and values needed to move into the middle class from January - April 2006.

Two Healthy Families program participants, who also serve on the District XII Task Force, attended Child Abuse Day at the Capitol on April 11, 2006, to talk with state legislators about their positive experiences with services from the Healthy Families program and to advocate for increased funding for prevention services throughout the state.
